PSSR Testing
Compliance done properly. Safety without disruption.
If your coffee machine contains a steam boiler, it falls under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR). These regulations exist to manage the risks associated with stored energy and protect people, property, and businesses.
PSSR is a legal requirement, but it doesn’t need to be painful, expensive, or disruptive.
New machine installs – yes, PSSR still applies
Even brand-new machines should be inspected at the point of installation.
PSSR is not just about how a machine left the factory. It confirms the system is:
- Installed correctly
- Configured safely on your site
- Operating with all safety devices functioning as intended
That’s why we include the PSSR test as part of our installation, with a written report issued and emailed to you for your records.
How we work – Express Test Inspectors
As Express Test PSSR Inspectors, our approach is practical and customer-focused.
We don’t turn up looking to fail machines.
We work with you, not against you.
Our goal is to:
- Ensure the equipment is safe
- Ensure it passes where reasonably possible
- Help you stay legally compliant and insured
- Prevent unnecessary downtime or lost revenue
Where minor issues are identified, we explain them clearly and, where permitted, help you resolve them efficiently so the machine can pass without delay. Safety always comes first, but so does keeping your business running.
What you get
When we carry out PSSR testing, you receive:
- Inspection by a fully qualified PSSR Inspector
- A practical, real-world assessment of the installed system
- Clear explanations, not jargon
- A written PSSR report, emailed directly to you
- Honest guidance on inspection intervals and ongoing compliance
Why PSSR matters
Hot water under pressure stores significant energy. If faults combine, failure can be severe. PSSR exists to reduce that risk through inspection, documentation, and accountability.
The cost of not being compliant
Skipping PSSR is a false economy.
Insurance implications
- Insurers cannot insure illegal activity
- Non-compliance can invalidate cover for:
- Injury
- Property damage
- Business interruption
Legal responsibility
- The Duty Holder (usually the owner or user on site) is legally responsible
- Limited company status does not automatically protect individuals
- Enforcement action and prosecution are real risks in the event of an incident
Who is responsible?
The end user, even if the machine is hired you the end user are responsible for ensuring compliance.
Ongoing inspections
Inspection frequency is set by the Written Scheme of Examination. As a guide, many coffee systems are commonly inspected at 12-month intervals.
We’ll advise you clearly and honestly, without upselling or unnecessary testing.
Install it once. Test it properly. Keep earning.
